Retired businessman and philanthropist Robert Pulver died Thursday in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, in West Des Moines. A celebration of life will follow the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Glen Oaks Country Club, 1401 Glen Oaks Drive, West Des Moines. Pulver, a native of New York, quickly made Des Moines his home. He started his business, All-State Industries, in 1974 and supplied products for numerous Fortune 100 companies, leading the company for 45 years. As a member of the Blank Children’s Hospital board of directors for 20 years, he played a key role in helping the organization grow, eventually chairing a capital campaign that raised funding for a significant renovation. Pulver was recognized by dsm Magazine last year as a Sage Over 70. “Central Iowa is a better place because Bob Pulver decided to live here,” Bill Knapp, chairman emeritus of Knapp Properties, said in the Sages article. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Blank Children’s Developmental Center.
