The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement has been named the recipient of the 2021 Dr. Judith Conlin Welcoming the World Award in recognition of the institute’s commitment to creating a culturally respectful and welcoming Iowa, the Iowa International Center announced. The Harkin Institute in Des Moines, under the guidance of Executive Director Joseph Jones, has worked collaboratively with Iowa International Center through its commitment to citizen engagement and its advocacy of issues essential to improving lives of Americans, said Patricia Grote, executive director of the Iowa International Center. The two organizations are also frequent professional program presenters for international visitors hosted by the Iowa International Center on such varied topics as local and state government, public policy, governance, disability rights, civil society and citizen engagement. Jones and the Harkin Institute will be honored during Iowa International Center’s Passport to Prosperity Week celebration, Sept. 6-11.
