NOTEBOOK – ONE GOOD READ: Is more stockpiling on the horizon?

A week or so ago, I read that toys may be in short supply this coming holiday season. Now the Wall Street Journal reports that toilet paper and paper towels are being snatched up by American consumers. Again. The situation isn’t as dire as it was early in the pandemic, write Jaewon Kang and Sharon Terlep. Still, the market-research firm that studies the availability of products reports that as of Aug. 29, 86% of paper products (think toilet paper and paper towels) were in stock. The rate is lower than consumer products on average but far from 2020’s toilet paper shortage when just 40% were in stock, write Kang and Terlep. Maybe this year, Santa will be filling stockings with toilet paper.
