The website Livability.com ranked American cities on how well they are positioned to weather the next recession — and whether they are giving people something to do. Des Moines ranked seventh on the strength of its steady and affordable housing market, state government budget reserves, growing population and increasingly recognized cultural life. Lincoln, Neb., topped the list.
