The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden and the Iowa Asian Alliance will celebrate the reopening of the updated Robert D. Ray Asian Garden with an event held at the garden from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  The garden is located along the Des Moines Riverwalk on the eastern bank of the Des Moines River, south of Interstate Highway 235. The redesign of the garden, which cost an estimated $750,000, included expanding it north along the river, installing new walkways and adding more than 20,000 new plants representing both Asian and North American ecologies. Visitors can walk through the expanded gardens and learn about the five refugee communities first welcomed by Gov. Ray.  A brief program begins at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
