A new Hy-Vee grocery store under construction in Grimes will open in September, a spokesperson for the West Des Moines-based grocer said.

The store, located at 351 N.E. Gateway Drive, will include a W Nail Bar, DSW Shoes, Joe Fresh Clothing, Starbucks, a pharmacy, wine and spirits, and Aisles Online.

The exterior of the store is a new look for the retailer and includes brick, precast concrete panels and metal flashings in gray shades that range from light to charcoal. The exterior design of existing Hy-Vee groceries includes shades of tan and brown, and at some stores, green awnings over entryways.

The 92,989-square-foot Grimes store will be among the largest for the grocer, which has 280 stores in eight states. Building permits valued at more than $12 million have been issued for the project, on which construction began last November.

An exact date of when the store will open in September hasn’t yet been released, the company’s spokesperson said.

However, the store is in the process of hiring more than 150 people. Available jobs include online personal shoppers, cashiers, stockers and food service clerks. Pay for part-time jobs starts at $12 an hour; pay for full-time jobs starts at $15 an hour.

Overall, the store is expected to create more than 400 jobs.

The district store director of the Grimes store is Jamie Maple, who previously held the top position at the Hy-Vee in Marshalltown. Maple, who began her career with Hy-Vee in 2007, is originally from Chariton.
