UnityPoint Health-Des Moines has named Denise Cundy as chief nursing executive, effective May 31. Cundy, previously assistant vice president for nursing and care coordination, succeeds Deb Moyer, who retired last month. Cundy has 22 years of nursing leadership experience, including nursing roles in medical/surgical, critical care, emergency medicine, dialysis and academia. Cundy earned a diploma in nursing from Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, S.D., a Bachelor of Science in nursing at Huron University in South Dakota, and a Master of Science with a focus on nursing education from South Dakota State University. She is also a board-certified nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and completed the Executive Fellowship in Healthcare Innovation Leadership at Arizona State University. She was named a Top 100 Great Iowa Nurse in 2015. “After conducting a national search for our next chief nursing executive, Denise proved she was the right person for the job,” said David Stark, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. “Denise has been providing nursing leadership for many years and I am confident in her ability to take our team to the next level.”
