The Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network and Capital City Fruit will be distributing free boxes of fresh produce from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Southridge Mall parking lot by Sears, the organizations said in a news release. DMARC will also be giving away dairy items with Eat Greater Des Moines, and kids’ produce prep items because of a partnership with the WIC program. DMARC also announced it and Capital City Fruits are extending the distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables through July and August through a partnership with the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The boxes, which contain about 20 pounds of fresh produce, are distributed through DMARC’s 14 partner food pantries.
