Women leaders at Business Record make news
Emily Barske, bottomphoto, associate editor of the Business Record publications, including Lift IOWA, and Kathy Bolten, top photo, senior staff writer, are at the helm of products that received awards at the Alliance of Area Business Publishers annual ceremony on June 25.
BPC is a women-owned and women-led company, so it is especially gratifying to see these female leaders recognized by other foremost business publications across the U.S., Canada and Australia.
As associate editor, Barske oversees all Business Record products, and we were honored to receive awards in three categories: Best Daily Email for the Daily, Best Specialty E-Newsletter for Commercial Real Estate Weekly, and Best Multimedia for the Photography Issue. To receive honors for our digital capabilities is testament to Barske’s talent and innovation and that of her team.
Bolten is the driving force behind commercial real estate coverage, a beat she took over last year and has continued to shape. It is a tribute to Bolten’s quality coverage that her work stands out in this category against business journals in much larger markets.
Both of these leaders joined BPC, the parent company of the Business Record, in the last year and have quickly made a significant contribution to our newsroom and our company during an unprecedented time. Barske came to us from the Marshalltown Times-Republican, where she was editor, and Bolten joined the Business Record after a distinguished decadeslong career at the Des Moines Register. Each brings a unique perspective and different experience to her role, and both have helped our organization to evolve our platforms and expand our coverage.
Neither of these two exceptional women seeks fame, so it is even more meaningful that their talent was recognized by peers. We are pleased to thank and congratulate Barske and Bolten for their leadership in company, community and industry.
