IEDA awards $21.9 million for historic preservation
Fifteen projects have been awarded nearly $22 million in historic preservation tax credits, the Iowa Economic Development Authority announced today. The Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program provides a state income tax credit for the restoration of historic buildings. It is designed to promote unique, character-defining buildings, and building features that contribute to a neighborhood, according to a release from the agency. The program is administered by the IEDA with the State Historic Preservation Office. Tax credit amounts can be up to 25% of the qualified rehabilitation expenditure, according to the IEDA website. Three projects in Central Iowa received awards: The Argonne Building in Des Moines was awarded $1.8 million for renovation for mixed use upon competition; Hoyt Sherman Place received $710,000 for mixed-used renovations; and the Carnegie Library in Indianola received nearly $500,000 for renovations for office and commercial space upon completion. The full list of award recipients can be found on the IEDA website.
