Iowa State University announced today that Toyia Younger has been named the new senior vice president for student affairs. Younger, who comes to ISU from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, will begin her new duties on Aug. 17. Her selection is pending approval by the Iowa Board of Regents. According to a news release, Younger holds a bachelor’s degree in social relations from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in counseling from Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in education policy from the University of Maryland. In the release, ISU President Wendy Wintersteen described Younger as an “experienced leader with the collaborative spirit and vision to further strengthen Iowa State’s reputation for providing an exceptional student experience.” Wintersteen also said Younger is “an excellent fit to advance the university’s priority of being a national leader in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that meets the needs of our diverse student body.” In the announcement, Younger said she is looking forward to becoming “an integral part of the university’s unwavering commitment to preparing students for the future and serving the needs of the Ames community,” and working to help advance the university’s mission. Younger succeeds Martino Harmon, who left in June to take a position at the University of Michigan. Photo contributed by ISU.
