Oakridge Neighborhood, a supportive housing and services nonprofit in Des Moines, has received a $25,000 grant from the W.T. & Edna M. Dahl Trust. The money will be used to fund campus improvements to support Oakridge’s dual generation approach to workforce development, Transitions/2GEN. The platform supports the needs of families with young and school-aged children, while implementing the programming enhancements and fostering partnerships to increase the employability of refugees, hard-to-place clients and single parents.
More than 60% of the nearly 1,100 residents of the Oakridge campus are immigrants and refugees from 17 countries, speaking 25 languages. Just over half the residents are children; 99% of the residents are low-income.
