Mathews named CFO of UnityPoint Health-Des Moines

He fills the position previously held by Michael Dewerff, who was named CFO of Bryan Health in Lincoln, Neb. Mathews was formerly vice president of finance for Mercy Health in Joplin, Mo., where he had responsibility for the southwest Missouri/Kansas region for that system. Before that role, he spent seven years in various financial and decision support roles with Mission Health System in Asheville, N.C. “After a national search, it became clear Tom has the experience and the passion to take on this leadership role at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines” said David Stark, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. “Tom has a wealth of knowledge and 12 years of progressive experience in both urban and rural environments that will lend itself well to our work here.” Mathews holds a Master of Health Service Administration and a Bachelor of Science in biology from Xavier University in Cincinnati and a B.S. in accounting from Colorado State University. He and his wife, Melissa, have three children.
