DMOS Orthopaedic Centers announced that three fellowship-trained surgeons joined the medical group effective Aug. 31. Being fellowship-trained indicates that each of the medical doctors has an additional year of training in a specific specialty of orthopedics following the required five years of general orthopedic surgery training. They are Lea Gunnell, MD, specializing in foot and ankle and lower extremity trauma; Brock Reiter, MD, specializing in hand and upper extremity; and Anthony Tedesco, DO, specializing in sports medicine and general orthopedics. “Recruiting highly specialized, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons is a long process, often taking years to find the proper fit,” said DMOS’ president, Nicholas Honkamp. “The fact that we have three talented orthopedic specialists joining our team simultaneously is incredibly exciting. We know this growth improves our medical community and gives Central Iowa patients more opportunities to seek exceptional orthopedic care.” DMOS Orthopaedic Centers has expanded services in the past year to include an urgent injury walk-in clinic in Ankeny and an interventional physiatry clinic to diagnose and manage chronic and acute injuries nonsurgically or with minimally invasive procedures.
