A number of observers are trying to imagine the staid justices uttering profanities that are central to the case. Company lawyers told the court not to worry: “The discussion will be purely clinical, analogous to when medical terms are discussed.” The case revolves around a section of federal law that allows the trademark office deny requests for trademarks on “immoral” and “scandalous” words and symbols.
