Jerry Foxhoven, who has led the Iowa Department of Human Services for the past two years, resigned today from the director position, Gov. Kim Reynolds’ office announced in a news release. Before leading Iowa’s largest state agency, Foxhoven was executive director of clinical programs and professor of law at Drake University’s School of Law. Reynolds’ announcement offered no comments regarding Foxhoven, instead praising Iowa Department of Public Health Director Gerd Clabaugh, whom Reynolds appointed today as interim director of the Department of Human Services. Clabaugh, who has been the IDPH director since 2014, will continue as director of that department until a permanent DHS director is named. “Gerd has done an incredible job at the Department of Public Health and is well positioned to lead the Department of Human Services,” Reynolds said in a statement. “He will play a very important role in implementing my vision for an integrated, compassionate, and coordinated health care system.”
