Matt McKinney, West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Board chairman, has announced plans to run for the at-large City Council seat being vacated by current Councilman Jim Sandager. Sandager this week announced that he wasn’t seeking reelection to the seat he’s held for 16 years. McKinney, in a news release, outlined his priorities. They include keeping steady and reducing property tax rates; affordable housing; helping small businesses grow; and continuing to provide efficient city services. McKinney is a 2004 graduate of the University of Iowa and a 2007 graduate of Creighton University Law School. He is an attorney and partner with the BrownWinick Law firm and chairs the firm’s government relations practice group.
