Approximately 5,000 volunteers from 36 companies plan to participate in United Way of Central Iowa’s annual Day of Action on Sept. 10, the largest day of volunteer service in Central Iowa. Among the planned activities, DART employees will travel by bus to read with students at Monroe Elementary School. Overall, about 800 volunteers are expected to read with 1,000 third grade students as part of the Read to Succeed events taking place at metro-area schools.  During the day volunteers will work on projects that will benefit 30 nonprofits and 15 metro-area schools. As the event sponsor, DART is providing the book “Last Stop on Market Street,” focused on how public transportation connects families to places, opportunities and each other. DART provides 3,500 rides to Central Iowa students each weekday. For more information about the Day of Action events, click here.
