California adds Iowa to ‘travel ban’

California has added Iowa to a list of states in its “travel ban” because of the state’s ban on funding gender-transition surgeries under Medicaid, Fox News reported. That means that beginning Oct. 4 California won’t use tax money to pay for any trips to Iowa for public employees or students of a state university. The ban results from a California law signed in 2016 by then-Gov. Jerry Brown that bars state-funded travel to other states that undercut LGBT rights. The blacklist also includes Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi.
