National Pork Producers Council to launch its Give-A-Ham challenge Nov. 1

161 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Iowa Stops HungerThe National Pork Producers Council will kick off its annual Give-A-Ham challenge on Monday, Nov. 1, with a joint event at the Food Bank of Iowa. According to a news release, the challenge is aimed at encouraging members across the country to donate pork to organizations that are fighting food insecurity. The challenge will continue through the end of the year. Last year, more than 15 million pounds of pork, or about 220 million servings, were donated during the challenge. The challenge will start with an event scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Food Bank of Iowa, which serves 677 partner organizations across 55 Iowa counties. During the event, Jen Sorenson, president of the Urbandale-based NPPC, will outline the challenge and the involvement of pork producers nationwide. Michelle Book, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Iowa, is expected to speak about the increased need for protein donations, especially during the holidays, to make sure no Iowan goes hungry.
