Brent Johnson of Calhoun County was elected president of the Iowa Farm Bureau during the organization’s meeting this week in Des Moines. Johnson will become the farm group’s 14th president, succeeding Craig Hill, who is retiring. Hill has been in Farm Bureau leadership for 40 years, the last 10 as president. Johnson and his family farm in Manson. He previously served as the organization’s District 4 director, having been elected to that post in 2016. In addition to growing corn and soybeans and raising cattle, Johnson, who earned an agronomy degree from Iowa State University, founded an independent precision ag company that specializes in GPS soil sampling, precision ag equipment, data management and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for data analysis. “Leading the state’s preeminent grassroots farm organization during such a critical time in agriculture is no small task, but with a long history of achievement and an engaged and unified membership, the Iowa Farm Bureau is positioned for continued success,” Johnson said in a news release.
