Hy-Vee plans to install 900-square-foot freestanding buildings with drive-through lanes at two of its West Des Moines grocery stores to allow customers to pick up online orders. The buildings would be located at Hy-Vee stores on Jordan Creek Parkway and Mills Civic Parkway, according to information provided at a recent West Des Moines city meeting. Similar online pickup kiosks opened in late summer at stores in Waukee and Liberty, Mo. The West Des Moines-based company has several climate-controlled grocery pickup lockers that are often placed near the store. “These new pickup kiosks help move some of that traffic flow away from the front of the store, ensuring a smoother experience for all Hy-Vee customers,” the Hy-Vee spokeswoman wrote in an email. The kiosks, with red accents and the words “aislesonline” across the top, are staffed by Hy-Vee workers who deliver orders to customers’ vehicles when they arrive at the pickup area.
