Fareway delivered more than 24,000 dozen eggs today to the Food Bank of Iowa as part of its partnership with the Iowa Egg Council. According to a news release, the donation was part of the sixth annual “buy two dozen, give one dozen” promotion last month. The partnership between Fareway and the Iowa Egg Council is aimed at helping provide eggs to Iowans who are struggling with food insecurity. “Customers were encouraged to purchase two dozen eggs of any brand Dec. 6-11,” said Fareway Regional Vice President B.J. Van Der Linden. “Thanks to our generous customers and partnership with the Iowa Egg Council, we were able to provide a truckload donation of eggs for Iowa’s food banks.” Michelle Book, the CEO of the Food Bank of Iowa, said eggs are one of the best tools to fight hunger. “Because of their high nutritional value and versatility, eggs can become the backbone of breakfast, lunch or dinner for a family in need,” she said. All the eggs were delivered to the Food Bank of Iowa, with about 10,800 dozen going to pantries in the 55-county area the food bank serves. The remaining 13,600 dozen eggs will be delivered to Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Food Bank for the Heartland, Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, River Bend Foodbank and Food Bank of Siouxland.
