The state reported an additional 38,574 cases over the past week, the most in any one-week stretch throughout the entire pandemic, and an average of 5,511 cases per day. This number only captures those positive tests reported by the Iowa Department of Public Health and may not include people who tested positive at home — an option that has become more prevalent.
