West Bank, a long-time West Des Moines business, paid $4 million for about 7.5 acres where its new headquarters are planned, Polk County real estate records show.
The property, which had been owned by Shoppes at Valley West LLC, is located specifically at 3320, 3330, 3340, 3400 and 3448 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The property is south of Valley West Mall.
West Bank plans on constructing a four-story, 62,000-square-foot building on the site. The bank’s headquarters currently are located in an office building at 1601 22nd St. in West Des Moines that it has leased since 1972. West Bank’s lease expires in about 28 months.
The site along Westown Parkway currently includes a mostly empty neighborhood shopping center, a vacant restaurant building and three other structures including a building that is home to Twisted Vine Brewery. The brewery is relocating to downtown Des Moines’ Market District.
Plans call for four of the buildings to be razed. A building occupied by Bank of America will remain until the end of the bank’s lease, which is in about nine years.
West Bank continues to work on finalizing the design of the building and getting the necessary approvals from the city of West Des Moines. Henning Paric, whose headquarters is in Johnston, is the project’s general contractor.
Construction of the new headquarters is expected the begin this spring.
The real estate transaction was recorded Jan. 19.
