Sticks, whose studio has been located at 3641 S.W. 61st St. since 1999, has sold the 25,000-square-foot studio and event venue for $2.65 million to Annett Holdings Inc., which operates an employee-owned transportation-trucking-railroad company called TMC. The transaction, which includes the sale of more than six adjoining acres, was completed on Oct. 25.

The property is valued at more than $2.7 million, according to the Polk County assessor.

Officials from Annett Holdings, whose headquarters is located about two miles south of the Sticks property at 6115 S.W. Leland Ave. in Des Moines, could not be reached for comment.

The structure is surrounded by tall oak trees. A portion of the building has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the oaks. The space has been rented for wedding events, according to Sticks’ website.

Sticks doesn’t need as much space to operate as it once did, said Rachel Eubank, Sticks’ president. Her mother, Sarah Grant, began the business in 1998. About 50% of the company’s business is now devoted to “Sincerely, Sticks” laser printed pieces of Sticks products, she said.

“We are able to sell Sticks branded pieces at a lower price point,” Eubank said. “That also means we don’t need as much as space as we have now.”

The company, after Jan. 1, will move to 2150 Delavan Road in West Des Moines. Remodeling of the space Sticks will occupy in that building will be completed in about 30 days, Eubank said. In December, after the final load of holiday orders is packed onto a UPS truck, the company will begin the process of moving.
