The Des Moines Art Center and the By Degrees Foundation are piloting a youth art program with corporate support from the Principal Foundation. The “My Voice” program will offer 12 students from three Des Moines schools the opportunity to create an artwork inspired by work from the Art Center’s permanent collection in the medium of their choice. Through the initiative the Art Center will create four video “toolboxes” for educators, students and parents covering what to expect when visiting a museum and how to “invent curiosity in the museum experience.” The program will culminate with a reception at the Art Center and displaying the students’ artworks in their schools alongside a reproduction of the artwork that inspired it.
