LifeServe Blood Center announced it is offering community blood donors a way to help support Ukrainian relief efforts through their blood donations. While individual blood donations can’t be sent directly to Ukraine, LifeServe donors who give blood April 18-30 can have the reward points they earn for their donation given to the efforts to support the Ukrainian Blood Service. All point donations will be matched by LifeServe Blood Center up to a $10,000 monetary contribution, which will be used to purchase blood-collection equipment directly in support of patient care in Ukraine. Fresenius Kabi, a world-wide manufacturer and distributor of blood supplies and equipment, will match these donations on a 1-to-1 ratio up to a maximum of $250,000. Holmes Murphy, a long-term supporter of the volunteer blood donor program and LifeServe, has been active in Ukraine relief efforts through various internal programs and will also host a blood drive for its employees at its Waukee headquarters. LifeServe’s blood inventory levels have been much lower than desired this year, said Danielle West, LifeServe marketing director. ”This opportunity encourages our local blood donors to come together to help others in this time of crisis while also helping close to home,” she said.
