Des Moines Register: Wells Fargo & Co. is laying off six dozen employees in the Des Moines metro area, according to state filings. The banking giant, whose home mortgage division is based in Des Moines, confirmed in April that it was cutting positions around the country. The layoffs came after Wells Fargo reported a drop in the number of customers originating home loans this year. Bank spokesperson Elise Corbett declined to comment in April on how many Iowa employees were in line to lose their jobs. But according to filings with Iowa Workforce Development, Wells Fargo cut 44 positions in downtown Des Moines and 28 jobs in West Des Moines.
