The theme of the annual Civitas Rotary Multi-Club Committee of Greater Des Moines public forum this year is “Putting an end to human trafficking,” according to a press release. “This is a critical issue for our region partly due to the intersection of Interstate 80 and Interstate 35,” said Civitas Committee Chair Tamara Kenworthy in the release. “The more our committee learned about this issue, the more we realized how tragic and prevalent it is. Rotary’s mission is ‘service above self’ and we want to help bring awareness on this issue to the public, as well as share education on what is being done by so many local heroes, and the role the public can have.” Panelists include Rocky Vest, partnership development manager at Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance; Brenda Long, founder and executive director of Garden Gate Ranch; and David Gonzalez, senior investigator at Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance. The event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in West Des Moines on April 26 at 4:30 p.m. More information and registration for the event can be found at this link.
