Applications are due Sept. 21. Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded, and must be matched at 50% with cash or in-kind contributions. At least one-half of the matching support must be in cash. “Good nutrition is a cornerstone to optimal health and well-being,” said Mary Lawyer, executive director for the Wellmark Foundation. “We are pleased to offer this grant opportunity focused on projects that make it easy for Iowans and South Dakotans to have greater access to healthy foods to eat.” Examples of sustainable grants — projects that continue after the grant funding ends — include but are not limited to edible orchards and landscaping; community gardens and greenhouses; farm-, field- or garden-to-table projects; mobile food pantry, food rescue and gleaning programs; and learning kitchens that provide cooking demonstrations and hands-on opportunities. More information can be found on the foundation’s request for application page.
