Des Moines Register: Polk County Attorney John Sarcone, who retires this year, will depart as the highest-paid county employee in the 2022-23 fiscal year, making $230,350 a year, according to new salary data provided by the county. Sarcone’s successor, to be determined in a Nov. 8 election, will make the same salary. County Administrator John Norris and Medical Examiner Joshua Akers, the second- and third-highest-paid employees in the county’s 2023 fiscal year, each earn slightly more than $228,000.
