Three groups have contributed $336,000 to a campaign supporting the development of the Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza, the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation announced.

Krause Group has proposed developing an outdoor stadium complex on a 43-acre site southwest of downtown Des Moines. The proposed 6,300-seat Pro Iowa Stadium would be used by a USL Championship soccer team and would also host other events.

Prairie Meadows Casino and Hotel, through its Legacy Grant Program, has donated $186,000 to the stadium fundraising campaign, the foundation announced. In addition, the campaign received a $100,000 endowment from Merchants Bonding and $50,000 from GreenState Credit Union.

“We’re passionate about bringing people together through the world’s game — soccer,” Dan Jansen, the foundation’s program manager, said in a prepared statement. “We’re thrilled these partners recognize that the Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza will bring tremendous benefits to central Iowa residents and businesses alike.”

The Iowa Soccer Development Foundation is the fundraising arm of the initiative to bring professional soccer to Des Moines. The foundation has raised more than $22.5 million in private funding, which includes the most recent contributions. The group’s goal is to raise $25 million.

The stadium, planned at 200 S.W. 16th St., is expected to open in spring 2025.

Construction of the stadium and plaza is estimated to cost about $95 million. The Iowa Economic Development Authority last year gave preliminary approval to providing up to $23.5 million in state hotel/motel and sales tax revenue through the Iowa Reinvestment Act.
