The move brings a new leader who, unlike Edeker, comes from the health care side of the business. Phil Lempert, a grocery industry analyst, said tapping a veteran from the health care side of the business should allow Hy-Vee to differentiate itself from competitors. Lempert said the company’s wellness staff — pharmacists, dietitians and a prepared foods team — tends to be better than those of other grocery chains.
