Lifespace Communities announced that it has appointed Jesse Jantzen as its new president and chief executive officer, effective April 1. Over a nearly 30-year-career, Jantzen has held similar positions with Ascension Living and Elder Care Alliance as well as various leadership positions with Des Moines-based Life Care Services. Most recently, he was CEO of Lutheran Life Communities in Arlington Heights, Ill. His selection follows a nearly yearlong national search following the departure of former CEO Sloan Bentley from the nonprofit senior living organization. “We are excited to have Jesse join the team,” said Paula Shives, chair of the Lifespace board of directors. “He not only met all of the qualifications set by the board for this crucial role, but also demonstrated a strong commitment to servant leadership and growth. His depth of knowledge, people centric leadership style and passion for residents and team members made him an ideal fit. Most importantly, we share his aspiration to make a difference in the field of aging.” Larry Smith, the company’s interim president and CEO, will transition back to his role as Lifespace Communities’ chief financial officer. Based in West Des Moines, Lifespace Communities operates 15 senior living communities in eight states, serving approximately 5,100 residents.
