More single-family houses and townhomes were sold in Iowa during the first three months of 2020 compared with a year ago, new data released from the Iowa Association of Realtors shows. Specifically, 7,428 houses and townhouses were sold in the state, up 8% from the 6,879 sold during the same time period. In addition, pending sales jumped 13.4% and new listings were up 14.3%. The residential real estate industry began to feel the effects of the pandemic during the last two weeks of March, Scott Wendl, the association’s president, said in a prepared statement. “It is too early to tell how this will translate into April, May and beyond.”
