Des Moines Register: Amazon Inc., the giant online retailer, has delayed, canceled or closed 66 warehouses this year, according to the supply chain consulting firm MWPVL International. Projects on hold include a distribution center in Davenport, where the company planned to hire 1,000 employees. Originally slated to open this year, the project is now scheduled to launch in 2024. A warehouse Amazon leased in Council Bluffs earlier this year is not yet operational.  “We’ve been working with them but have not been given the date yet,” said the CEO of a Council Bluffs-area economic development organization. After rapid expansion over the last two years, Amazon pulled back on warehouse projects in 2022 as shoppers failed to do as much online shopping as executives projected.
