About two dozen firefighters from the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department on Thursday took part in training during a whole-house burning exercise on a structure at the site that is expected to be home of Bombers, an indoor golf and entertainment facility. For the past few weeks, area firefighters have also done training involving smoke bombs and other devices, Allen Stoye, a principal in the Bombers’ development group, wrote in an email. Bombers donated the structure to the fire department to practice firefighting situations. The structure needed to be removed from the 35-acre parcel at 5055 Merle Hay Road to allow construction of Bombers to begin. A groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be held in April. Construction of the facility, which will include 60 climate-controlled golf-hitting bays, is expected to be completed by summer of 2024.
