The Newman Civic Fellowship is a prestigious recognition that honors students who have shown exceptional leadership qualities and commitment to creating positive changes in their communities. Gause, a social work major from Cedar Rapids, serves as president of the Black Student Union and is part of the Thrive Mentoring program. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in social work with an emphasis in clinical social work after completing her bachelor’s degree.

Campus Compact will provide the fellows with a year of learning and networking opportunities, which include numerous virtual training and networking opportunities, the Annual Convening of Fellows, and pathways to apply for exclusive scholarship and postgraduate opportunities.

The fellowship is named for the late Frank Newman, one of Campus Compact’s founders, who was an advocate for civic engagement in higher education.
