The Harkin Institute is set to host Dining in the Dark, an immersive communal dining experience, at 6 p.m. on May 9 at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines. Participants will wear blindfolds while using senses other than sight to explore food and drink, gaining firsthand experience of the challenges faced by people with disabilities in the workforce and daily life. The event will also feature a panel discussion and Q&A session with experts in disability employment, entrepreneurs and corporate executives. Dining in the Dark is part of the Harkin Institute’s Inaugural Harkin Summit on Scaling Disability-Driven Innovation, a two-day event aimed at scaling the innovative potential of people with disabilities to transform the economy. The summit will include a job fair, a startup pitch session and networking opportunities for organizations.
