Drake multimedia website, students win national awards

Urban Plains, an innovative multimedia website created by Drake University journalism students, has received top honors in the 2015 national journalism educators’ awards contest, the university announced. Urban Plains was named the best online magazine by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition, Kayli Kunkel, a graduating Drake senior from Dubuque, won first place for first-person article, and junior Molly Longman, from Sidney, won second place for feature writing. The website is a capstone publication produced by seniors in Drake’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Syracuse University won second place; the University of Missouri, third; and the University of Arizona, honorable mention.
