Financial analyst James Grant, the publisher of Grant’s Interest Rate Observer, will discuss his new book, “The Forgotten Depression,” on Sept. 17 at Simpson College in Indianola. In his book, subtitled “1921: The Crash that Cured Itself,” Grant said the depression of the 1920s was short-lived because the government did not get involved. He believes this would serve as a good lesson for today’s political leaders and economists. Grant will speak at 7:30 p.m. in Hubbell Hall, which is on the second floor of the Kent Campus Center, followed by a book-signing. The free event is sponsored by Iowa History Center in conjunction with the Greater Des Moines Partnership and CFA Society Iowa.
