The University of Iowa plans to offer three initial degree programs at what is now AIB College of Business should the Iowa Board of Regents accept AIB’s proposal to donate the AIB campus to the Iowa City-based university on July 1.
UI spokeswoman Jeneane Beck said the university plans to propose these degrees to be offered at a planned regents center in Des Moines: Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts in Sports and Recreation Management and Bachelor of Arts in Enterprise Leadership. A decision on other programs to be offered by UI, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa at the campus along Fleur Drive is pending.
The regents plan to hire a consultant to study the best sites for a proposed regents center in Des Moines and to ask community leaders, including business representatives, what degree programs they would like the universities to offer. The idea is to respond directly to workforce needs, regents President Bruce Rastetter said.
The AIB donation and a related agreement are expected to be on the regents’ agenda as early as October.
