Newton a top small town

The list was based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s micropolitan areas, which are defined as having a population of between 10,000 and 50,000. Realtor.com then evaluated those cities for their unemployment rates, job opportunities and median house prices. The rankings also took into account “fun and interesting amenities,” according to a release. In Newton, fun times can be found at the Iowa Speedway, Iowa Sculpture Festival and Bowlful of Blues. In addition, the city has an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent, below the state and national averages, and the median price of a home is $108,000. Oskaloosa and Spencer also made the list. Oskaloosa was ranked No. 1, Newton No. 4 and Spencer No. 6.
