Dozens of volunteers will purchase hundreds of winter coats and boots today during a Shoes That Fit Power Shopping event. The event, at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Windsor Heights from 5 to 7 p.m., is led by the Des Moines chapter of Shoes That Fit, which is coordinated locally by OnMedia, a division of Mediacom. More than 2,600 children at 26 Greater Des Moines schools will benefit from this year’s donation drive. The shopping event will close the gap between the donations already made and the specific requests for students identified by area teachers. Funds to pay for the items to be purchased have been donated by Mediacom employees, the IMT Des Moines Marathon, plus local businesses and individuals who contribute to Shoes That Fit.
