MPO awards six grants for ‘complete streets’
The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization has awarded six grants for a combined $75,000 for local projects meant to support walking, bicycling and other alternatives to driving. The awards were $15,000 for bike racks and parking along University Avenue in Windsor Heights; $9,165 to connect the Neal Smith Trail to Sixth Avenue in Des Moines; $14,835 for a bike lane and shared-lane markings on South Fifth Street in Carlisle; $15,000 to extend the trail and improve a crossing at Northwest 60th Avenue in Johnston; $15,000 to expand the Des Moines bike-share program; and $6,000 for added bike parking along Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines.
