Iowa’s 43 ethanol plants produced more than 4 billion gallons of the fuel during 2015, up slightly from 3.9 billion gallons in 2014, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association reported. Iowa produces 27 percent of the ethanol from the United States, leading the states. The increase came from changes at existing plants to improve efficiency, and from the addition of plants producing ethanol from corn stover and corn kernel fiber.
