Bill Jensen, longtime Des Moines automobile dealer, has passed

Bill Jensen, who started his career in the automobile business in 1949 as a car jockey at Crescent Chevrolet and ultimately owned the company for 27 years before selling it in 2007, died Jan. 5 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was 84. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic service following, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, 3010 52nd St. in Des Moines. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines. Jensen was a lifelong Des Moines resident. He graduated from East High School and was an inductee in its hall of fame and a past president of the school’s alumni association and foundation. He was named the 2003 Time magazine Iowa Automobile Dealer of the Year,according to his obituary.
