In addition to recognizing outstanding nurses every year, the 100 Great Iowa Nurses program offers financial education awards to support graduate-level nursing students in Iowa. The program plans to offer at least three $1,500 awards to students pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice or Ph.D. degree. The 100 Great Iowa Nurses education awards promote professional nursing in Iowa by supporting the continued education of future nurse leaders. It is the mission of the program to support the Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report, which calls for 80 percent of Iowa’s nurses to have their bachelor’s degrees by 2020 and double the number of doctoral-prepared nurses.
