Weitz, Ryan, Dunn among nation’s top contractors

0 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentThe Weitz Co. has risen in the ranks of the nation’s top 100 contractors, according to construction industry publication Engineering News-Record. The Des Moines-based firm ranks 65th for this year, up from 84th in 2015. The listing is based on 2015 revenues. Weitz reported $1.3 billion in revenues for last year, as well as slightly more than $1 billion in new contracts. Prominent projects where the Weitz banner is flying include the Iowa Events Center Hotel at Fifth Avenue and Park Street. JE Dunn Construction Co of Kansas City, Mo., which has a large presence in Iowa, dropped four spots to 26th this year with $2.8 billion in revenues. JE Dunn reported $3.6 billion in new contracts. Ryan Cos. US Inc., which will build Des Moines Outlets in Altoona and is leading construction of the Krause Gateway Center in the Des Moines Western Gateway, rose eight spots to be listed as the 51st-largest contractor in the nation with revenues of $1.3 billion. Minneapolis-based Ryan reported slightly more than $1 billion in new contracts. Engineering News-Record said the top 400 contractors in the country generated $344 billion in revenue last year, up from nearly $332 billion in 2014, marking a record high for the group. The previous record was $338 billion in 2008.
